Ethiopia: Ruling party wins parliamentary elections by a landslide
With 438 out of 486 seats in the House of People’s Representatives, the Prosperity Party secured an overwhelming victory in the parliamentary elections. Abiy Ahmed now enjoys a more than comfortable majority. The chamber will be responsible for electing the prime minister when the new parliamentary session opens, expected between late September and early October.
More than 1,000 confirmed Ebola cases in the DRC
The threshold of 1,000 confirmed Ebola cases has now been surpassed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. At least 254 deaths have been recorded so far, mainly in the eastern part of the country. The only encouraging sign amid the crisis is that around one hundred patients have recovered since the outbreak was officially declared on May 15.
Kenya: Labour Minister under scrutiny over recruitment to Russia
In Kenya, Labour Minister Alfred Mutua is facing growing controversy. In June 2025, he posted photos on X alongside young Kenyans before their departure for Russia. Having overseen the placement of more than 400,000 Kenyans in jobs abroad as part of efforts to combat poverty and unemployment, he is now accused of bearing primary responsibility for alleged forced recruitment into the Russian military.
